Hoh Xil is located in the northwest region in the tableland of Tibet, and its area is 8 million square kilometer, most of them are prairie(高原). The average elevation of here is above 5000 meters. And at the edge of it, you will see the snow capped mountain. Also there are many salty lakes in it. Hoh Xil is famous for its cold climate, strong wind and low air pressure. Because of the low pressure, the boiling point of water is only 80 degrees. The disgusting climate doesn’t affect the beauty of Hoh Xil. It isn’t deserted. Hoh Xil means “a beautiful young girl” in the Tibetan language, and it is also the major source of Chang River. The unmanned region of Hoh Xil is the biggest non-people area in China, also the last place that haven’t been damaged by human. So it is the paradise of the wild animals. Hoh Xil is one of the places that have abundant animal resources area in China. There are more than 230 species of animals, including antelopes, wild yaks， wild donkeys，deer，brown bears，snow leopards and so on . Most of them are the animal protection in the country. Every year Hoh Xil attracts a great many tourists come here. They drive jeeps to through the void area. They enter the center of Hoh Xil: experience the pure natural life there. Although it is attractive, it is also adventurous. Because wolves and leopards often appear in the night . So you must make adequate preparation before you set off. The most important factors that make Hoh Xil known by people are the antelopes. The antelopes are regarded as the pride of Hoh Xil, and it is one species that only our country has, similar to the pandas. The difference between them is why they are so *** all in number: it is well known to us, the panda has a poor adaptability, by contrast, the adaptability of antelopes is very strong. They have lived in this land for millions of years, because they are belong to here. In such a bad condition, the antelope can run at a speed 60km one hour in a very long time. During that period, about 35000 antelopes are hunted and cruelly killed, they take the fur and leave their dead bodies, soon you will see a number of cinereous vulture(秃鹫) come, then only the bone left. Now you can hardly find a crowd of antelopes in their habitat, this ancient species will die out if we don’t take measures in time. There are three main reasons making the number cut down: firstly, as the high profit for antelopes’ furs, many poachers hunt them without permission. Second, the district that antelopes spread is very broad, what’s worse, the horrible environment and bad traffic also increase the difficulty to protect them. Third, the organization to protect antelopes is short of the necessary equipments and fund. Because more and more people are concerned about the situation of antelopes, our government set up the Hoh Xil nature reserve administration in 1992-12. You might have seen the movie Mountain Patrol that directed by the famous director LuChuan, it has impressed the audience. And it is adapted on a real story: a person organized many people to prevent the poachers from hunting the antelopes, they bear the horrible weather and condition, during the fight against poachers, the captain was killed, but the work doesn’t stopped, then his younger sister’s hu *** and continue it.
